The author deals with the progressive thought of J. A. Komensky, with his thoughts relevant to our socialist present. He emphasizes the significance of Komensky as a thinker, educationalist and social reformer as manifested in the opinions of Komensky concerning social improvements, pansophic endeavours and the foundations of pedagogics. Many suggestions may be found also in his thoughts on the necessity of life-long education, i. e. also during the adult age. Komensky is appreciated as a creator of the foundations of the science of education as far as it concerns the stating of the ideals of education and theoretical system of knowledge and education, generalization of educational experience and precise definition of the category of notions. Komensky is relevant fox the socialist present not only as a teacher of nations but also as a great social reformer and a fighter for the world peace. Komensky fights for international understanding science and education which would help better living and help assuring the welfare of mankind. Though the life of Komensky was full of difficulties he believed in the future reform of all human affairs. His optimism belongs also to the bequest he has left for us. This optimism is a creative one and we feel it is in harmony with our revolutionary socialist goals.
