Communist education is a complex system, one part of which is the subsystem of work education. In the system analysis of work education, prognostic orientation is of particular significance. The objectives, the content, the process and the media of work education must be judged and determined within the context of the prognosis of the development of society as a whole and after confrontation with the trend of the development of the economy, science and technology, taking into account anticipated changes. In defining the structure of the Communist work education system, two basic classifying aspects have been used — those concerning content and institution. As regards the aspect of content, the following sub-systems are included in the system:
1. general, polytechnical education,
2. hobby work activities,
3. work activities useful to society,
4. professional orientation. As regards the institutional aspect, the structure of the Communist education system will be as follows:
1. work education in the family,
2. work education at school,
3. work education in educational institutions outside school,
4. work education in social organizations.
General, polytechnical education is the basis and starting point for the development of creative, many-sided hobby work activities, socially useful work and the long-term process of professional orientation. The system of work education creates firm and dynamic links between the school and the political, productive and cultural activities of the socialist society. The primary condition for further development of a Socialist society is the participation of its members in the working process, in the development of material and cultural wealth of the society. Work is not only a source of the society’s progress, but it also affords vast possibilities for the formation of personality, for man’s self-realization. In the present period human work is inextricably linked with science and technology — and therefore scientific and technological orientation of work education must be continually reinforced. Science and technology are becoming the most dynamic factors in the development of society and their share in moulding the profile of a Socialist man will keep on increasing. Science and technology are not only a means to ensure and preserve the very existence of man, but also an instrument for increasing the quantity and deepening the quality of information about the world and about man himself. Under Socialism, science and technology are in the service of man, but man must have mastered them. We have tried to apply all the above-mentioned ideas and drafting the theoretical bases of the work education system as part of the super-system of Communist education with the aim of reinforcing the connection of the educational system with the life of society.
