The article contains an analysis and appraisal of the thirty years’ development of the Czechoslovak Marxist pedagogy. This development is inseparably bound up with the revolutionary social changes that have taken place since 1945, and with the new requirements in the field of education in the liberated Czechoslovakia. The development of Marxist pedagogy in Czechoslovakia also draws on the progressive pedagogical traditions and is likewise realised in the struggle against non-Marxist pedagogical theories and conceptions. A positive influence of on the development of pedagogical science in Czechoslovakia is exercised by Soviet pedagogy. The article analyses in detail the positive results and tendencies in the scientific and research work as well as some shortcomings and problems in it (e. g. in the publishing activities, in the management of pedagogical science and others). The most important part of the article is the analysis of the main trends in the future of Czechoslovak pedagogy and of the basic factors and conditions by which this development is determined and influenced. The factors involved are especially the following: the requirements of a developed Socialist society and of the scientific and technological revolution, which make it essential to investigate current and prospective problems of educational practice; dynamic development of social, natural and technical sciences influencing the development of pedagogy as regards its content and methodology; requirements of the internal development of the pedagogical science itself, especially the necessity to investigate its generally theoretical and methodological problems; scientific cooperation with the Socialist countries, especially with the USSR. The future development of pedagogical science also depends, to a considerable degree, on the creation of suitable personnel, organisational and materially technical conditions. In accordance with the above-mentioned factors and conditions the article clarifies the orientation of scientific and research work in the field of pedagogy up to the 15th Congress of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and in the years 1976—1980.
