Annotation:
The author is trying to outline the history of Czech pedagogy on the basis of development of the didactics of the national elementary school. He says this development is connected, above all, with the revival and the spreading of the Czech language as a living instrument of education in the broad masses of the population in the Czech lands. In this connection he stresses the campaign of Czech educationists for the native content of the subject-matter not only in the mother tongue but also in civics and history. For this reason the author is mainly concerned with describing the conditions in the first half of the 19th century when these features of the development of didactics dominated the pedagogical scene.
