Abstract

Poet Thomas Gray and His Elegy
On the occasion of the poet’s anniversary, the paper outlines his life and discusses his
oeuvre. Particular attention is paid to his Elegy Written in a Country Church-Yard, allusions
to it in modern poetry, and its Czech translations in the nineteenth century by Josef
Jungmann and Jaroslav Vrchlický.
