The essay is a characterization of the conditions of education in the Federal Republic Germany, in principle all teachers in the FRG are prepared for their profession at unoversities. Their education is organized according to the categories which respond to individual types of schools. The length of the education is different and depends on the teacher’s category, taking 6-12 terms. Organizationally the preparation is divided into two phases. The first phase, the so called study, is predominantly theoretical. It is formed by the study of the subjects of aprobation, the so called basic sciences (education, philosophy, psychology, political sciences), somewhere also by the practice. The study is finished by the first state examination. It is organized and carried out by the universities. The second phase, the so called „Referendiat“, is above all practical. At selected schools the students take part in all the teacher's activities and generalize the knowledge acquired in seminars. The „Referendiat“ is completed by the 2nd state examination, this being the qualification and functional presumption. It is organized and realized by the organs of the school authorities. Further on, the teachers’ education is predominantly carried out through the courses, the function of that education being the innovation, and is obligatory for all teachers. Its conception and content are much discussed in the Federal Republic Germany. Its further advance will evidently exploit the mass media. The major problems of the contemporary teachers’ education are seen in 1. education according to the types of schools, 2. in the two- phases education, 3. in an unsufficient connection of the theoretical and practical compounds of education.
