The Institute for Research and Development of Education was supported by the Czech Science Foundation to investigate shadow education under the project named Parental demand for shadow education: Contexts, processes, determinants and outcomes (2022-2024, reg. nr. 22-01308S). The principal investigator dr. Vít Šťastný will collaborate with dr. Nutsa Kobakhidze (Comparative Education Research Centre, University of Hong Kong) on the project.
The goal of the research is to develop a comprehensive theory that explains parents’ decisionmaking process for arranging (or abstaining from) different types of private tutoring for their children in connection with different life situations, circumstances and contexts. Qualitative empirical research will draw on the design of grounded theory to investigate the decision-making process of parents of secondary school students regarding the use of different types of private tutoring. It will examine the influence of contexts and intervening factors on this decision-making and its consequences.
