Gema Zamarro

Professor and Endowed Chair in Teacher Quality (EDUC)-Education and (EDRE)-Education Reform at The University of Arkansas, Fayetteville

Current research focus: Measurement and development of character skills, determinants of gender gaps in STEM, the study of teacher labor markets and teacher pensions, and gender and education impacts of the current COVID-19 crisis.

Why I do research: Research in economics and education reveals that student motivation and character skills such as grit and self-regulation are important to well-being. However, less is known about how character skills can be developed. Researchers also face the challenge of how motivation and character skills can be measured.

I cannot imagine working without: Great coauthors and students to work with and share my passion for research
